A child’s game is what I thought this morning.

And then, recalled all the times it was played on me

by people who were not children.

Pranks designed to embarrass. To make a person look the fool.

Gullible. Silly. Weak.

Good for a laugh.

Yelling “Fire” in a crowded room where there is no fire

The point being. What? A laugh? power? supremacy? cruelty?

To draw attention away from one thing to another thing.

I am tired of the game. But people keeping playing it.

When someone says, “Look at this!” I think less about the “this”

and I think about the “someone.”

Do I trust this one? Is this someone who has my best interest at heart?

I am hearing “No” inside my soul more often now.

Now I am asking how can I become a trusted one so that when

there really is a fire…and I want to help…I can be trusted not to be the arsonist.
