My Trinity of Dragons by debgrant
At random times in my life, I have three dragons that rear their heads and remind me of some wisdom I need to know in the moment.
Falkor, the luck dragon from Neverending Story is a dragon with the disposition of a golden retriever who can fly. Ready for adventure, filled with joy and endless affection. We all need a luck dragon in our lives. And we do. We usually don’t have to look too hard to find them.
The Dragon who sometimes wins:
This satisfied dragon reminds me that life doesn’t work out the way I want it to for myself or my loved ones or the world. I hate that. I have come face to face with this dragon too many times to count. It is just the hard truth. Sometimes the dragon wins.
Third dragon of my trinity is the one in a children’s book called “There is no such thing as a dragon.”
The book is about a tiny, puppy-sized dragon that a boy finds and brings home as a pet. The problem is that the family refuses to see the dragon and spends most of the book denying the existence of the dragon and telling the boy there is no such thing as a dragon. With each denial, the dragon grows and grows…larger than the house…until the panicky parents finally admit…there is such thing as a dragon! The next day, the dragon is back to managable puppy size. The parent’s ponder why it grew and why it got small again. The little boy offered, “I think it just wanted to be noticed.”
Sometimes I have learned that problems can grow out of proportion when I am in denial that the problems even exist. Sometimes paying attention keeps problems from getting larger than they need to be. And we all need to be noticed.
At any given time in my own life or as I ponder the situations of gravity in our nation and the world, I wonder what dragon I need to hear, need to grieve, or need to reduce to a managable size. At the end of the day, I hope Falkor is snoring nearby helping me to believe it will be all right and each day comes with friendship and new adventure. I hope that for you too.
Peace,
debgrant
I loved this ❤️🙏🏼🥰
I really never thought of life that way! But I would have to say that most of us live our life with 3 dragons.
Thanks once again for the awesome analogies of life
