Pause
Pause by debgrant
The philosophers tell us
Look before you leap
And the one who hesitates is lost.
Which is true?
It depends.
The situation. The cost of the consequences of a pause.
How tender is the truth.
How compressed into a second, a breath.
How dependent upon the adrenal gland
and firing synapse
and mystery of memory.
Advent is a weird season
where it feels like a rewind button,
shoving a savior human born back into the womb
without asking his mother as if only she can give birth to love.
A better use of the season perhaps is to hit pause
because we do too much leaping before we look.
We lose ourselves and one another and an opportunity for love.
In this self-inflicted pause, we might look around,
plan our trajectory,
to leap in time toward a new opening.
