Sidekick by debgrant
I wanted to lift up the sidekicks. Not because I ever had one but because I often was one. So I know there are others out there. They are remarkable. I am proud to be among them.
I often see myself as the Rhoda in the Mary Tyler Moore Show of Life. The cut-up. The one who had to be reminded to take life more seriously. The loyal friend to the person doing the heavy lifting. I was not quite ready for prime time. In Girl Scouts, I was always the scribe never the patrol leader. In high school and college plays, the comic supporting player, never the lead. Yes, bridesmaid, never a bride. I was a solo pastor but never a senior. I was the associate with two remarkable male pastors who I was honored to work with.
In scripture, there were sidekicks that carried the story forward. Aaron helped Moses. John the Baptist helped Jesus. They were supporting players who had a speech, a role, an action that surfaced briefly and lifted the narrative into our lives. I loved carrying their story into the lives of others.
Today, I encourage you to consider the sidekicks in the story of your lives who kept the energy of your narrative moving forward. Today, if you are a sidekick, you hope you recognize the importance of the role you play.
Peace,
