Author’s Note: On this All Saints Day, I introduce to you St. Fiona of Muttley (I call her Fee)
A stray, a mystery, found a month ago by the local animal shelter staff abandoned & scared in a local church parking lot. They guess she is a few years old and last week came to live with me.
The shelter staff named her Church at first and then changed it to Fiona. Fiona is the name of a Gaelic patron saint of drunkards, poets, and stargazers. Lord knows I have had my moments of all three.
Fee has the look and the temperament of a cross between a little black lab and a capybara. She is an old soul, a contemplative saint inside a young body that sees a squirrel and thinks about it.
Reggie, my parrot, has told Fee about Bailey - my sainted dog - and tells Fee she too is a good girl. Like all good saints, Fee is grateful and humble.
Today is my baptismal anniversary - the day in which I was declared a saint and given all the grace I would need to find peace inside my own skin and walk among the saints.
I am grateful.
Peace,
debgrant
