To Be or Not to be an Influencer by debgrant
I don’t have an answer for this. Just guesses and more questions.
Why would anyone want to be an influencer?
Every parent is whether they want to be or not. The want-to-be ones are probably better than the not-want-to-be ones, but not always. I have never met a parent though who has aspired to have a child who is easily influenced by “other kids,” advertisements, or social media. I am not a parent. It seems to be an exponentially complex task.
Anybody who wants to sell stuff or their services. From everything like a new kitchen gadget to how to live your best life to how to grow your (fill in the blank) in 10 easy steps. The subsets of this type could include:
Anyone who wants power and money for themselves.
Anyone who likes the rush of fame.
Anyone who genuinely believes they have something valuable to offer and needs to be paid to be able to keep doing it.
Anyone who genuinely believes they have something valuable to offer and is willing to die of generosity.
Are all people influencers?
I don’t know. I guess it depends on relationships.
Do certain professions have the innate task of influencing others?
For example medical doctors, lawyers, advertising executives, opinion columnists, preachers?
Whose voices do you trust to get passed your naturally and carefully built defenses against undue influence to converse with the questions swirling in your soul?
I hope they deserve your trust.
As I said, I have questions.

Oh man! So do I! This is something I ponder, wrestle with, etc. on a daily basis. I wonder what we would believe if no one told us what we’re supposed to believe and how much we unknowingly allow influence from places we would not expect. I pray I can allow the influencers I need and still allow room for my own discernment.
